2003 EDITION: XVII Premi Solidaritat to Jordi Petit and
Menció Mitjans de Comunicació to Ali Lmrabet
On the 27th January, 2004, the jury, composed of Victòria
Camps, Arcadi Oliveras, Maruja Torres, Xavier Vidal –Folch,
David Bondia y Jaume Saura (Director and President of IDHC),
awarded the XVII Premi Solidaritat to Jordí
Petit.
The jury wanted to recognize his work in the defence of
gay and lesbian rights over the last 25 years both in Catalonia
and internationally.
This year, the prize consisted of a work of art titled 'Branques
Obertes', a sculpture made for this occasion and generously
donated by the Catalan sculptor and professor at the University
of Barcelona, Jaime Córdoba.
Additionally, the jurors decided to award Ali Lmrabet,
a Moroccan journalist, with the Honorary Prize for Work in
the Mass media, for his fight in the defence of freedom of
speech.
The bestowment of the Premi Solidaritat and Menció
Mitjants de Comunicació took place on February 24th,
2004, at the Parliament of Catalonia. Mr. Ernest Benach, President
of the Parliament of Catalonia, and Jaume Saura i Estapà,
director of the Human Rights Institute of Catalonia presented the prizes.
The Gospel Institute of Barcelona closed the act with a concert.
