NOMINATION PROCESS UNDERWAY FOR THE PREMI SOLIDARITAT 2009

Proposals can be submitted until the 10th of December 2009

Once again, the Institute of Human Rights of Catalonia (IHRC) will present the Premi Solidaritat; an annual prize which awards an individual or institution that stands out in their struggle for the defence and promotion of human rights.

Proposals can be submitted, along with the documents that accredit the activities carried out by the candidate in their defence of human rights, to the IHRC office at Pau Claris, 92, entl. 1ª 08010 Barcelona until the 10th of December 2009.

The panel, made up of members of the Board of Directors of the IHRC and other individuals from the cultural world and the human rights arena, will choose the winner from among the correctly documented proposals arriving before the deadline.

PREMI SOLIARITAT AND THE MENCIÓ ESPECIAL MITJANS DE COMUNICACIÓ

Every year, with the Premi Solidaritat (Solidarity Prize), the HRIC recognises and awards those citizens, associations or institutions that have stood out for their defence of human rights.

The prize-winner is chosen from those nominated by institutions and individuals associated with the HRIC. The winner is awarded with an artwork donated to the HRIC by recognised artists.

In 1998, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the board founded the Menció Especial Mitjans de Comunicació (Honorary Prize for Media Work). The prize recognises media workers who tackle the issues surrounding the defence of those most in need and the protection of human rights, whether in Spain or any other part of the world.
