The grave human rights violations committed against the Tibetan population seem to go unnoticed by the international community. For this reason, the Human Rights institute of Catalonia organised a round table discussion in which the origin of the conflict, the present human rights situation, and the international community's response were analysed.

ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION

Tibet, autonomous region of China and human rights

During the session a brief historical explication of the central points to the understanding of the conflict was given. The standpoint of the international community towards the present situation in Tibet was also explained.

The human rights violations that have occurred throughout the conflict were covered in detail, as was the lawsuit presented to the Audiencia Provincial in Spain and the repercussions of this process.

Lastly, the present situation was described from the perspective of the personal experience of a Tibetan monk.
