The “Forgotten Conflicts” programme aims to bring light to the reality of situations in various regions of the world by promoting greater knowledge and awareness of conflicts and their consequences among the general public. This approach is carried out from a human rights and international law perspective and seeks to understand the conflicts' underlying causes and to offer a constructive vision that contributes to the advancement of peaceful solutions.

In the case of the South Caucasus the conflicts go back to the disintegration of the USSR and constitute just some of the many unresolved territorial disputes that have existed since that time. National demands and religious factors are mixed in with the various energy and geopolitical interests in play. The region is composed of three sovereign states - Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia - and found within it are three regions - Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Nagorno-Karabakh - that aspire to become states. These regions have experienced moments of tension and armed conflict that have created many victims and brought about serious human rights violations, without a final solution to their demands being reached.

The IDHC aims to bring this reality closer to Catalan society by means of two roundtable events. The central theme will be these three conflicts in the South Caucasus, focused on from different angles by people who deal with various facets of the conflicts from different areas of intervention.
